Buhkty (Sweet Buns)
- yolks of 2 eggs
- 1 whole egg
- 1/4 lb. butter
- 3/4 cup sugar
- Grated rind of 1 lemon
- Juice of 1/2 lemon
- 2 cups lukewarm milk
- 1 cake yeast Teaspoon sugar
Add yeast and milk to first ingredients. Mix well. Add flour with level tablespoon of salt till the dough is of medium consistency. Let stand for 2 or 3 hours. Make into biscuits, and stuff with pot cheese or jelly. Let the biscuits stand before baking. Butter top.
Babovka (Form Cake)
- 2 cups lukewarm milk
- 1 cake yeast
- 1 teaspoon sugar
Add to:
- 4 cups flour
- 1 cup raisins
Mix well and let stand in warm place for 15 minutes. Add:
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup sugar
- yolks of 4 eggs
- grated lemon peel
- grated orange peel
- cup of cream
- cup of milk (lukewarm)
- teaspoon salt
Add flour and mix well until dough does not stick. Set aside in warm place to rise. Cover bottom of buttered form with layer of dough; sprinkle with finely chopped nuts and sugar; add another layer of dough; sprinkle; add a third, until tin is 3/4 full. Butter the top, and bake.
