Washington Fruit Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 cupfuls of butter
  • 5 eggs well-beaten
  • 3 cupfuls of brown sugar
  • 1 cupful of sweet milk
  • 1 teaspoonful of soda
  • 4 cupfuls of browned flour
  • 2 teaspoonfuls cream-tartar (mix as usual, and stir in at the last)
  • 1/2 pound of currants, washed and dried
  • 1/2 pound of raisins, seeded
  • 1 pound of dates, seeded and chopped
  • 1 teaspoonful of ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoonful nutmeg

Directions

Mix ingredients. Bake slowly and steadily until done. If any of the fruit is omitted add a little more flour.
