Hard Gingerbread
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cupfuls of sugar
- 1/2 cupful of shortening
- 1 cupful of water, or sweet milk and water
- 1 teaspoonful of soda, sifted with part of the flour
- 1 teaspoonful of ginger
- 1 tablespoonful of cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoonful of powdered mace
- 1 tablespoonful of lemon juice
Directions
Melt the shortening. Use flour enough to roll out as soft as it can be handled. Bake in a dripping-pan and mark off with a knife in strips.
