Meringue Bread Pudding

Ingredients

  • 1 pint fine bread-crumbs
  • 1/4 pound powdered sugar
  • 4 egg yolks well-beaten, 1 white
  • Grated yellow rind of 1 lemon
  • Butter the size of an egg
  • 1 quart of milk
  • Directions

    Bake one hour. Beat the 3 whites of egg with 4 tablespoonfuls powdered sugar and the juice of the lemon. Spread a layer of currant jelly over the pudding after it is baked. Pour the beaten whites over this. Place again in the oven and brown delicately. Serve cold with cream.
