  1. Mix and sift the baking powder, flour, and salt.
  2. Add the tablespoon of butter and lard. Stir until well blended.
  3. Stir in the milk and water. Add more liquid if necessary.
  4. Place the dough on a floured surface. Roll out to 1/4-inch thickness.
  5. Cream the 1/2 cup of butter with the brown sugar and butter. Spread this mixture over the dough.
  6. Roll up dough like a jelly roll and cut the roll into 3/4-inch slices.
  7. Arrange slices flat on a greased pan and sprinkle nutmeg on each slice.
  8. Bake.
