Fruit Bread
Ingredients
- 2 cups sweet milk
- 2 cakes yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 tablespoons lard
- 4 tablespoons sugar
- 1 1/2 cups fruit, cut fine (raisins, currants, citron, dates, figs, or prunelles)
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 3 cups flour
Directions
- Scald milk and let cool.
- Dissolve yeast in water and add the mixture to the milk.
- Sift the salt and flour together. Add to the liquid mixture.
- Cream the lard, butter, and sugar, then add them to the rest of the ingredients.
- Dredge the fruit with flour and add to the dough.
- Knead dough thoroughly and allow it to rise.
- Divide dough into loaves and place them into bread pans.
- Bake.
