How to Make Caraway Rye Bread
Ingredients
- 1 cup milk
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1/4 to 1 yeast cake dissolved in 1/4 cup warm water
- 4 tablespoons chopped suet
- 1/3 cup brown sugar or 3 tablespoons molasses
- 2 teaspoons caraway seeds
- 3 cups whole-wheat flour
- 1/2 cup walnuts (optional)
- 3 cups rye flour
Directions
- Melt the suet.
- Mix the milk, water, sugar (or molassses), and salt with the suet.
- Add the yeast and flour. Mix well.
- Cover dough and let rise until it doubles in size.
- Mix in the caraway seeds and walnuts.
- Divide the dough into two halves. Form each half into a loaf and place them in a greased pan.
- Bake.
