  1. Sift together the dry ingredients.
  2. Mix in the butter and milk. Stir until the mixture forms a soft dough.
  3. Turn out on a floured baking board and roll into rounds.
  4. Dust the griddle thinly with flour, slip on the rounds of dough, and cut into quarters.
  5. Bake slowly and do not turn until the top is beginning to show bubbles. Scones should be turned only once.
  6. Serve hot.
