How to Make Dry Yeast Bread
Ingredients
- 8 cups flour
- 2 1/2 cups warm water
- 2 tablespoons lard
- 1 yeast cake
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
Directions
- Sift the flour.
- Bread up the yeast cake and put in a bowl.
- Add half a cup of water to the yeast. Stir.
- Stir in 1/2 cup of flour.
- Cover the bowl and let the mixture sit in a warm place for two hours.
- Add the rest of the water, sugar, salt, and half of the lard.
- Knead the dough for 20 minutes on a surface coated with flour.
- Place the dough into the bowl again and coat the the rest of the lard.
- Cover the dough and let it sit in a warm place overnight. The dough should rise to about three times its original size.
- Knead the dough for five minutes (without flour).
- Shape the dough into three small loaves and place them in greased bread pans.
- Cut lengtwise through the center of each loaf, then allow the loaves to rise to double their size.
- Bake.
