Stockholm Bread
Ingredients
- 6 1/2 cups flour
- 1 yeast cake
- 2 1/2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- 1 egg
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- powdered sugar
Directions
- Scald milk. Let cool.
- Add yeast to the milk.
- Stir in 1 cup of flour and let the mixture rise.
- Add the rest of the milk and 4 cups of flour. Allow the mixture to rise again.
- Add the butter, sugar, cinnamon, salt, egg, and rest of the flour.
- Knead dough on a floured surface.
- Cover the dough and allow it to rise.
- Roll the dough into strips about an inch and a half thick and 12 inches long.
- Braid the dough strips together and pinch the ends together.
- Place the braids on a greased pan.
- Bake.
- Brush with powdered sugar moistened with boiling water. Flavor with a pinch of cinnamon.
